We live in a lovely house in the South of France, 10 minutes away from Carcassonne, known in the whole world for it's beautiful Medieval castle, which is classed UNESCO. In 1996, Unesco added the Canal du Midi to its list of "World Heritage" sites. In 1997, the Cité de Carcassonne in turn was awarded this distinction. My house is 80 m2 and disposes of 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed, and bathroom. There is also a sofa in the living room, so 5 or 6 people can comfortably sleep. TV, HI FI, high speed Internet, are at your disposal. Cats and dogs are allowed. The house is only a 10 minutes away from the Cité of Carcassonne, in a charming village disposing of everything you need, grocery store, postal service, etc... The canal du midi, is 10 minutes away, the perfect place for long walks or for biking or hiking. This is a great location for a vacation! Walking, biking or leisure. This is one of the finest regions in France known for its gastronomy! Carcassonne is at the crossing of two major traffic routes used since Antiquity: from the 'Atlantic to the Mediterranean and from the Massif Central to Spain. The town is divided into two, quite separate parts. The Cité occupies a plateau on the right bank of the Aude. The Bastide Saint-Louis lies on the left bank. The old district of la Trivalle and the famous Old Bridge have been, from that time, the links between their two destinies. Carcassonne has inherited 2,000 years of history and invites you to discover its heritage of fine monuments.

Visitors can admire the splendor of the most complete fortified town in Europe, stroll through the narrow streets of the "Bastide St-Louis" (the walled hilltop town) or enjoy the charms of the banks of the River Aude or the Canal du Midi.

The Medieval Town:

The medieval walled town lies on the right bank of the River Aude and is featured on UNESCO's World Heritage list. It has 52 towers and 2 rings of town walls making a total of 3 km of battlements. There is no restriction on access to this area of Carcassonne. It is still home today to its population of approximately 100 and it boasts a large number of shops and craftsmen.

The town's 2,000-year-old history is marked by conquests, the rise of Catharism and the Crusades. You can find out about all of these aspects of Carcassonne during your visit.

Bastide St-Louis :

Situated on the left bank of the River Aude, the "Bastide" was commissioned by St. Louis in 1260 and built to a checkerboard layout. Even today, the streets in this area cut across each other at right angles and this area, lying within the town walls, boasts an outstanding variety of architectural styles.

Banks of the River Aude/Canal du Midi/Lac de la Cavayère:

In the town, the marina on the Canal du Midi, included in its own right in the World Heritage list, welcomes a large number of leisure craft. Designed by Pierre Paul Riquet and built in 1667, the Canal and the banks of the River Aude give Carcassonne outstanding leisure amenities and are an ideal place for a stroll.

To enjoy the peace, sunshine and water, head for Lake Cavayère only a few minutes from the walled town. It has beaches and a wide range of visitor amenities.

The big city of Toulouse is less than an hour away, and Spain and specially Barcelona, 1 hour and a half.
